New Ideas to Support Pima County Healthcare

New Ideas to Support Pima County Healthcare: Reflections On PCMS In 2024
By: Dennis Carey, PCMS Executive Director

As I look back on 2024, it was a year Pima County Medical Society tried to get out of its comfort zone to find new ideas to support the healthcare community.

It started by co-sponsoring the Take Back Medicine Town Hall with the Arizona Healthcare Advocacy Coalition at the University of Arizona. We also conducted three online meetings aimed at public health issues. The focus of these membership meetings included a discussion on gun safety and an overview on how PCMS can work with the Pima County Health Department in response to public health developments.

We conducted the first PCMS Career Bootcamp to help students, residents and young physicians consider local medical career opportunities. We also supported the American College of Physicians Arizona Chapter at its state conference in Tucson. Our Walk With a Doc program now offers cash incentives for participants through a new Partner called Grouper.

No doubt 2025 will provide many challenges. Politics at the national and state level have done nothing to ease concerns about the future of healthcare. PCMS will continue to work with its lobbying partners, but also concentrate on how it can help its members at the local level.

We encourage you to contact us with suggestions and ideas.
