Controlled substance prescribers face new state requirements

Effective October 1 or 60 days after the data has been integrated in the statewide health information exchange, prescribers are required to obtain a “patient utilization” report from the Arizona Controlled Substance Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (CSPMP) before prescribing opioid, analgesic or benzodiazepine controlled substances.  CSPMP provides a central database for all prescriptions dispensed for schedule II, III and IV substances.

It’s important physicians understand the guidelines before the new law takes effect.  Learn more here.
