AzMAT Mentors Program
Experienced MAT providers
Our community is experiencing a high number of fatal overdoses and access to medication assisted treatment (MAT) is limited. The Arizona Department of Health Services and the Arizona Center for Rural Health created the AzMAT Mentors Program to offer support to DATA-waived MAT providers. Through this collaboration, experienced MAT providers will be compensated to assist less experienced MAT providers to overcome the barriers that limit MAT services.
Experienced provider requirements:
- Be a licensed or DATA-waived MAT provider in Arizona with experience delivering the continuum of MAT services for at least one year or have treated at least 20 patients
- Participate in AzMAT Mentors program training
- Collaborate with one to two new MAT providers through one-to-one consultation
- Follow Arizona Center for Rural Health AzMAT Mentors Program implementation protocols
- Submit documentation for reimbursement
- Participate for an estimate of 20-37 hours.
This is a paid opportunity for experienced MAT providers.

Less experienced or new MAT providers
Our community is experiencing a high number of fatal overdoses and access to medication assisted treatment (MAT) is limited. The Arizona Department of Health Services and the Arizona Center for Rural Health created the AzMAT Mentors Program to offer support to new DATA-waived MAT providers and increase access to evidence-based treatment for people with opioid use disorders.
Interested less experienced or new MAT providers will be paired with experienced DATA waived providers and receive the following at no cost:
- One-to-one support with an experienced DATA-waived provider using a collaborative consultation model
- Access to local and state resources
- Ongoing technical assistance from the Arizona Center for Rural Health and the Opioid Assistance and Referral line
